When replacing your vehicles wheels, you need to consider a few things aside from their style. Its important to pay attention to the size, type, and material composition of the wheels before you buy them for your car or truck.

For cars and trucks, you have a choice of two types of wheels: steel and cast.

• Steel wheels: These are made of heavy-duty steel, using the stamp construction method.
• Cast wheels: These are made of aluminum alloy. They are manufactured under low pressure, which allows the metal to be more flexible. Because it is aluminum instead of steel, it is rust-resistant. The wheels are designed to be used on normal roads.

These wheels are made of different materials. These include:

• Alloy: This is a material that is primarily for a racing car. It resists corrosion. Wheels made using this material should be used on regular roads.
• Chrome: These are sharply polished wheels. Chrome wheels are also designed to resist corrosion.
• Steel: Wheels made of steel give vehicles a lower center of gravity. These wheels are used in rugged terrain and harsh weather conditions.
• Wire: These wheels are designed for vehicle support.

You can get these wheels in the diameters of your regular wheels, including 16", 17", 18", 20", 22", and 24".

You can choose from several different finishes, including:

• Black: The black finish can also come with a machined face. This finish is achieved with a computer numerical control (CNC) lathe. The lathe cuts a precise, thin layer of metal away from the wheel face. The result is flattened and polished look.
• Chrome.
• Gray.
• PVD, which stands for physical vapor deposition. This is a technology that, after decades of use in other industries, is finally available for automotive wheels. This process provides an alternative to traditional chrome plating and gives the same bright, polished finish. The PVD finish is approved by original equipment manufacturers.
• Silver

There are a couple of donts when it comes to maintaining your wheels. Never spray cold water on hot wheels, and never clean wheels with soap and water when they are hot. Cleaning of all finishes — including clear-coated, painted, PVD, chrome-plated steel, chrome-plated aluminum, and polished aluminum — should be done with a mild dish soap, followed by drying with a soft cloth. After cleaning, some finishes should receive further care. After cleaning chrome-plated aluminum, polished aluminum, and chrome-plated steel, polish with a soft, nonabrasive cream wax or wheel seal to prevent surface corrosion.
