Quad-Core LGA 775 Computer Processors

If you're looking for a replacement quad-core computer processor designed to fit an LGA 775 CPU socket, there is a selection of these processors available to choose from. The LGA 775 CPU is one of the primary components that determines a computer's performance. You can learn more about your LGA 775 CPU here.

What is a computer processor?

The LGA 775 processor is an integrated circuit that fills the role of a computer's central processing unit, or CPU. The LGA775 CPU is the chip that executes a program's instructions and orchestrates all of the input and output communications required for the user to interact with the software that is running. The LGA775 CPU manages memory use, disk reading and writing, graphics processor tasks, and communicates with other peripherals like keyboards, monitors, printers, and mice. Because of this central role, the speed and processing efficiency of a computer's CPU is one of the primary factors that determines its overall performance.

What does quad-core mean?

A quad-core processor has four separate, fully functional processing units that are able to execute program instructions in parallel while sharing the resources available to the LGA 775 CPU. This allows a quad-core processor to do the work of four processors when software is written to take full advantage of its capabilities.

What types of processors are available for LGA 775 sockets?

The LGA 775 socket was supported by Intel from 2004 to 2007. The processor families that were produced for this socket include the Intel Pentium 4, Intel Celeron D, Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition, Intel Pentium D, Intel Pentium Dual-Core, Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core 2 Extreme, Intel Core 2 Quad, Intel Xeon, and Intel Celeron. While some Intel Xeon processors were designed for the LGA 771 socket, they can be installed on one with an LGA 775 socket with the use of an adapter.

How are LGA 775 CPU processors installed into LGA775 sockets?

Follow these steps to install an LGA 775 processor into an LGA 775 socket:

  • Open the socket lever by pushing it down and then pulling it away from the socket, and then lift the lever up.
  • Lift up the load plate, being careful not to touch the socket pins on the motherboard underneath it.
  • Remove the protective cover from the load plate.
  • Remove the cover from the processor chip, holding it only by its edges. Do not touch the bottom of the processor.
  • Holding the LGA775 CPU with thumb and forefinger, align the notch in the chip to the notch in the socket. Lower it down into the socket without tilting or sliding it.
  • Close the load plate onto the LGA775 CPU and replace the socket lever to fix it in place.
  • Install the heat sink for the LGA775 CPU on top of the socket by pushing its four pins into the motherboard.
  • Locate the cooling fan's power connector on the motherboard and plug its power connection into it.
