Replacing the taillights of your Jeep, whether its a Wrangler or Jeep Wrangler TJ, is a short and simple process that should only take a few minutes.
- Identify the one that is not working. One or both of your lights may be burned out, so it is important to make sure that you replace all parts that have a problem.
- Take a screwdriver and remove the two inner screws, leaving the outer screws alone. Pull the housing away from the vehicle, and locate the bulb assembly.
- Gently twist the bulb assembly until it comes loose from the housing. Remove the bulb from the socket and replace it with a new one. Make sure not to touch the glass of the bulb with your fingers, as the skin oil can cause the light to burn out prematurely.
- Insert the bulb assembly back into the housing and twist it until it fits snugly. Screw the taillight housing back into place, making sure all the screws are sufficiently tightened to hold it securely.
- Test the new taillights to make sure they are now functioning properly.

- Xenon: These taillights get their name from the xenon gas that is present in the bulb. Unlike other bulbs, these do not have a filament, instead using an arc of electricity jumping from one electrode to another. The gas is the source of the extremely bright light emitted by this type, giving off high-intensity light when the electricity passes through it.
- LED: Offering a combination of excellent efficiency ratings and incredible reliability, LED taillights have a long life, so you do not have to replace them often. These also do not have a filament, and use special properties of electricity and semiconductors to generate light.
