Choosing a TV/DVD Player Combo Unit

When deciding on setting up your home entertainment system you might be weighing whether it make sense for you to obtain a separate Blu-Ray or DVD player unit or whether you want a TV monitor with the ability to play movies from a disc built in. Having a combo unit simplifies setup, because all you might need to hook up is the cable box. Here are a few other advantages to an all-in-one unit.

Why Pick a Combination Unit?

The biggest advantage to having an all-in-one unit is that you have an easy set up because fewer secondary units need to plug into your TV. You only need the one remote control that come with it because it has a built-in DVD player and/or Blu-Ray. Here are a few of the common features included in an Emerson TV/DVD unit.

  • Dolby Digital Surround Sound - You can hook your TV/DVD to a Dolby Digital surround sound, which will allow you to enjoy a more realistic and convincing ambiance like in a movie theater.
  • V-Chip - Many come equipped with a V-chip for you to be able to control what children can access from streaming networks.
  • Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) - The LCD TV screen utilizes the light modulating properties of liquid crystals. The major advantage of it is that larger TVs can be made because the overall technology that creates a picture is lighter than with a cathode ray tube.

What Models Are Available?

There are many new and used model of TV DVD combos available. If you just want something small and compact for an apartment, you can find one. If you want the latest in-home theater, there are great models available for that too.

  • LED LCD HDTV DVD Combo - This is one of the latest models that features: hook up to turn it into a PC monitor; LED backlight technology; Dolby Digital surround supporting up to 5 channels of audio; playable discs included are Audio CD, CD-R/RW. DVD Video, DVD-R/RW; Child lock; and is Energy Star qualified.
  • TV DVD/VCR Combo - You can also look around for a classic combo if you still love to watch your old VHS cassettes and you don't need a lot of bells and whistles. A good classic option is a color TV/VCR/DVD triple combo which featured: a HI-FI system; auto head cleaner; real time counter for tape playback; the ability to record up to 8 different programs on different channels one year in advance; and even a V-chip.
